Is there anything in reserves similar to the formal patrol school regulars go through?

Unfortunately no the reserves do not attend a patrol school.
The reason behind that is when the full timers go through the academy they aren't being molded to be patrol deputies right off the bat. They go to custody and work there for so many years. Once they are ready to go to patrol they are sent to patrol school to be refreshed on the idea of patrol.

With the reserve academy it's sent up to teach you everything you need to know in order to jump right into a radio car. Basically the patrol school ideas are already part of the reserve academy. Reserves don't see custody, so they are already taught in the academy the patrol techniques they need to know.
